How many of you looked like this today?
We rang in the new year last night in a most excellent way, we stayed home with the kids watching The Sound of Music. Very much my idea of a good time. I especially enjoyed that the girls, mostly Katie, were really interested in the history of what was going on in the movie, and we paused several times to explain Nazis, the Anschluss, patriotism, and love.
As usual the new year makes me think about the year we just left behind, and what I would like to do differently in the year ahead. I am not a resolution maker, I am in tune with myself enough to know that I won't follow through, and I see no reason to set myself up for failure. My friend Michele called today and asked me to give up diet coke with her, and I said sure, but as I type this I am drinking a diet coke (see what I mean?). So I have decided that instead of taking something away I would resolve to do something differently, so I have decided to keep my kitchen sink clean. That's it, pretty simple......heck I might even be able to handle it. I once did this home organization/decluttering thing called flylady(remember Jess?), and she would end all of the little reminder emails with, "Go shine your sink!" So I have no intention of promising a neat and orderly house, or that I'm going to walk the dog a half an hour every night, or stay on a diet for the next umpteen years, I'm just going to keep my kitchen sink clean.
There are a lot of things on a more personal level that I hope to give some attention to, but that is all I'll share..
How about you? Anyone got something they want to try and do better?
"Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Door bells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things"

I'm not much of a resolution maker either. However, I did join weight watchers online and promptly ate a pint of ice cream (Ben & Jerry's Heath Bar Crunch - yes..... in one sitting. The other things I am tackling with a little more success include the decluttering of my desk, preparing to paint one room in my house and re-organizing the sock drawer.
That's enought for one decade, let alone one year..... don't you think?? I actually sign on to WW almost daily and check and see how far over I am on my points. Today is a good day....... Happy New Year!
Judith,
I agree, that is more than enough, you certainly don't want to stretch yourself too far.
Happy New Year!
Julie,
you are playing to your weaknesses. A sure recipe for failure.
Let me give you a resolution for YOU:
Write more.
You were made to write. You have books in you.
Write articles, write opinions, write the editor, write in your journal, just write.
Happy New Year
ps. anyone else out there want me to give them a New Years resolution? Just ask. My resolution is to tell other people what they should be doing more often. I want to see if I can make through 2008 and have any friends left.
I resolved many years ago to make no more resolutions. I've really been GREAT at sticking with that one! But, I'll shine my sink if you shine yours. Otherwise I'll have Bruce shine it. Or maybe pay someone else to shine it when I get too busy. Or spritz eau de tuna in there and let the cat lick it clean. It's a cheap looking sink anyway, even when it's clean it's not really "shiny." So why bother. And the movers are going to declutter me...isn't that wonderful? I'm going to fight Bruce for a cookie now.
Happy New Year!
I have in past tears did the same with the children..I love The Sound of Music. I use to watch it with my parents during the holiday season.
I don't make resolutions because I never keep them so I will make changes too...I am going to re do the boys and Shannon's bedding..and a few new items to their room. I really do plan going through my closet which I use now as a extra HUGE junk drawer! Just glad it's all in bags...will have to continue to think of more changes..Oh and a healthier me!! Very important one!!
Again Happy New Year!!
